'Hylic journey'

A Gnostic concept, hylic – lowest order of the three types of humans. They cannot be saved since their thinking is entirely material, incapable of understanding the gnosis. This painting reflects upon the journey from ignorance to holistic understanding, making reference to a popular Zen koan that demands "show me your original face, the face you had before your parents were born". Painted with oils on a shimmering oak panel, dimensions are 1250 x 420 mm.

Dawn, a time when nature moves quietly and purposefully, here a vibrant rendition of a young stag is depicted, that now has noticed our presence from a distance and in perfect stillness observes our intentions. A misty, woody, soft background punctuates the perfectly rendered stag. Size 600 x 600 m.

Testimonials

“We wanted a substantial piece of art that would capture both our love of local bird life and also the estuary area we live in.  Ben Timmins oil on wood (okoume) of the oft overlooked shag/cormorant, estuary dweller, in a classic drying wing pose takes pride of place, capturing exactly what we had hoped for.  After over 10 years, we still admire and love it many times every day!”

"Ben listened to what I wanted, communicated well and produced an amazing painting that suited my home perfectly! I couldn't be more pleased with the outcome, which was made for my interior and feels right. I highly recommend Ben for anyone wanting that special piece of art for their home."

"Fifteen years ago I came across Ben painting in a small gallery in Takaka, NZ. His attention to detail was incredible. His art stayed in my mind, and over the years I purchased various prints of his until I got a commission painting. The subject was a perfect fit for Ben's talents. He communicated often and used photos I took to produce a stunning piece we keep in our bedroom of two emperor penguins in an ice cave. My husband and I were so happy with the painting of the penguins that a few years later, we commissioned another painting from Ben. Again, he used photos we provided to paint a beautiful scene of two kea flying over the Southern Alps. The art that Ben created has really made our house a home. His paintings embody our real-life experiences in a way that lets us enjoy and reminisce each time we look at them. We cannot recommend Ben highly enough!! Also we live in Europe, the shipping was seamless and our treasures arrived perfectly"
